Nelson Airport Terminal Nelson, New Zealand

Nelson Airport Terminal Nelson, New Zealand

With its immediate proximity to the sea, large volumetric area and extensive glazing it was decided that electric floor heating was a very cost effective and technically sound way to provide heating to the terminal building.

The design of the terminal is modular and can be expanded for passenger growth. The present size is intended to cater for growth projections out to 2035, when 1.4 million domestic passengers per year are forecast to pass through the terminal.

As with virtually all airport terminal buildings, the floor area is a large open plan area. The heating cables are installed as a demand based system with the elements installed directly onto a pre-existing floor slab and then encapsulated within a 20 mm thick top slab coating. The system is clustered into 21 multiple element zones of similar size and extending cold-tails.
Control of the heating is by means of an integrated BMS system.
